10-meters-per-stroke, 4 x 2000m/1:30r.
Today’s workout is the latest in a series of experiments with Interval Training. It obviously has evolved from earlier experiments, but is different from previous workouts in one regard.
In past workouts I tried to start the drive off the stretcher at the instant I completed 10 meters. This method requires persistently and ardently laborious concentration. For most strokes it meant I was either waiting to start the drive off the stretcher or rushing to start it. Wait or rush! From stroke to stroke I never knew what it was going to be. It was a huge distraction from what I was trying to focus on.
What is different about this workout is that I concentrated on maintaining a rhythm. I still rowed 10-meters-per-stroke. I still showed 200 strokes for 2000 meters. But with much less waiting or rushing!
Of course I had to make adjustments. These adjustments, however, were much more relaxed. They could be made leisurely over time, and as my rhythm improved there was much less need for adjustment.
