Focus: keeping the feet firm and flat on the stretcher, especially at the being poised forward on the front of the slides before driving off the stretcher.
"POISE FORWARD ON THE FRONT OF THE SLIDES
It is the ability to be poised forward on the front of the slides before the blade is in the water that allows us maximum efficiency. There is a point when you don’t have to do anything except make sure that you are connected." -Harry Mahon
How can you be poised forward on the front of the slides if your feet are not firmly supported by the stretcher? It seems to me that Harry Mahon pretty much reaffirms R. S. de Havilland’s thoughts about the stretcher. “See that the FEET are firm and flat on the stretcher. The stretcher is as important for rowing against as the ground is for standing on … A person firm on his feet will always attract a coach, no matter what failings there may be.”
