The first interval the target pace and stroke rate was 2:30/500m/24spm; the second intervals it was 2:30/500m/23spm. The Target Training Game proved to be much harder than I had anticipated. How do I gauge the results? The score was in the 50 percentile for the first interval and the 60 percentile for the second two. How does this compare with good scullers? I ended up rowing 24 strokes per minute for all three intervals. The pace averaged between 2:29.5/500 to 2:29.6/500. The graphs for each piece are not straight, smooth lines. What does this fluctuation mean? What is it telling me that I need to work on?
I am having misgivings about PM5’s Target Training Game. It diverts attention from what is happening to my body, which is dangerous because I need to focus on not letting myself get sloppy and push beyond my limits. I have a lifelong tendency to drive myself as hard as I can and ignore anything that gets in the way with the result that I often treat physical pain with contempt until it is too late and I injure myself. So it is more important to focus on maintaining the natural shaped curves of the spine than it is to risk re-injuring my back because I am focused on making a bullseye in a game.
