Again the goal was to produce peak force earlier and raise it higher. Two interesting things about this goal:
First, concentrating exclusively on producing peak force earlier and raising it higher — that is, pushing aside any conscious thoughts about body position — my body tends to find my strong point and the correct body position on its own.
Second, although I rowed at a low rate I started the drive off the stretcher with significant force. So this was not a low pressure, easy workout. Accordingly I was concerned that I was putting an excessive load against my lower back. Certainly I felt the effort. But afterwards my lower back felt great. This is the third such workout in a row and I must say that for these last three days my back has felt better than it has in years. This makes me question whether I have been exercising correctly. Have I been too easy on my lower back?
