Base Training On The Erg:
- Row From Your Strong Point
- Row Easy (18-20 Spm)
- Pay Attention To The Force Curve
- Generate Peak Force Early
- Sustain Peak Force All The Way Through The Drive
When I do the above the Force Curve is shaped rectangularly. When it is I end up rowing in the style that Igor Grinko coached.
I don’t even have to think about what my body is doing. All I have to do is visualize in my mind a rectangularly shaped Force Curve and eventually it will become the Force Curve on the screen of the Performance Monitor.
In fact whenever I think about what I am doing the Force Curve loses its shape. The only things I really have to be concerned about are watching the Force Curve to verify that I am generating Peak Force early and sustaining Peak Force all the way through the Drive. Everything else takes care of itself.
The only problem with the visualization I have just described is that it requires me to stay focused on the mental image I am trying to visualize. My mind tends to wander and when it does the Force Curve shows it. So far the only way I have found to restore the Force Curve to the rectangular shape I am trying to visualize is to slow down, pull less hard, rededicate myself to getting Peak Force early, and refocus on the mental image of a rectangular Force Curve.
