Row at a low rate, at low pressure, and work on technique means rowing between 18-22 spm, at 70 to 75% full pressure pressure, and shaping the force curve to show peak force early and preserved through the drive.
But what pace correlates with rowing at 70 to 75% full pressure? The numbers I suggested in the 19 March 2019 entry in these pages strike me as unrealistic, at least they do for me. Wouldn’t a pace between a 2:50/500 to 3:00/500 be more realistic? But how would I go about determining this? Truth to tell, I arrived at 2:50/500 to 3:00/500 pace by whether I feel that I am pushing myself too hard or not hard enough. Back pain is the biggest factor. Erg faster than a 2:50/500 pace and I start feeling back pain. The top end 3:00/500 pace is just arbitrary.
