There was a lot of whispered cursing during this piece. It felt challenging.
I chose a target split (1:56) that, in retrospect, was appropriate for me, and I used a pace boat.
The hardest intervals were in the middle, when I knew the end is far away, yet the exuberance of the first few intervals has faded. What made it mentally easier is that I knew I could stop at 8 or 12 intervals and earn partial credit in the holiday challenge. On the tough intervals 5–7, I could whisper to myself that the end is very near, if I need to cut it short. Fortunately I had enough in the mental and physical tanks to do all 16 intervals.
