First 8x500m in 3 months (last one: Mar 5th). I chose to go a half-second split lower than my most recent 2K test.
Before starting this piece, I felt the familiar butterflies that I get before a 2K test — knowing that I committed myself to a new, faster split time, fastest to date, that I have eight intervals to go, and that once I start, I must finish.
It was good to feel those butterflies during training — maybe I can train myself out of it.
I intentionally went at a somewhat low rate, inspired by Dmitry’s legendary 2K at Ergomania, which he did at a 24 spm for the whole piece. Then Aidan reminded me that going at a high rate is part of the point of this type of training. Oh yeah. Next time.
Could I go harder? The most challenging aspect was mental. Physically I am certain I could go harder. Mentally, those eight intervals are a burden. I was ready to quit after four.
I drank water all day in prep for this piece, but for several hours after this piece, I kept wanting water and must have drank at least 40 fl oz.
