George — this is another textbook Quiet Engine session. And there's a particularly nice feature here: you have now put together four consecutive days of work without producing a fatigue signal.
One small housekeeping point: you've labelled this Wednesday, but given our Week 7 sequence, I'm treating it as Thursday 10 September — Bike Endurance. The data itself is clear.
🟢 Week 7 — Bike Endurance
50 min @ 3:01.1 | HR 109/114 | 69 RPM | 59 W | RPE 3–4
The word I'd use is control.
You didn't just hit the target. You hit it repeatedly.
Your five 10-minute blocks
Block Pace RPM HR
0–10 3:01.1 69 111
10–20 3:01.1 69 112
20–30 3:01.1 69 109
30–40 3:01.1 69 114
40–50 3:01.0 69 113
That's almost absurdly consistent.
49 minutes? No. 50 minutes? Yes. And essentially one pace.
🔵 The neurological component is excellent
Although this is primarily a 🟢 metabolic session, the 69 RPM lock is important.
You've now got:
69 RPM → ~3:01 pace → repeat
without needing to manipulate cadence.
That's exactly the bike skill we've been trying to establish since the beginning of TQEP.
Remember when the bike was described as the weakness?
It's becoming considerably less foreign.
❤️ The HR story is reassuring
Average 109, maximum 114.
The HR variation is tiny:
109–114
despite holding the same pace for the entire 50 minutes.
That's a very calm cardiovascular response.
And the most important confirmation is still your subjective report:
No lingering fatigue
HR stable
Solid smooth session
The RPE of 3–4 is also appropriate. You're doing enough work to stimulate the system, but you're nowhere near turning this into a test.
📈 There's a nice Week 7 pattern emerging
Look at the three major sessions:
Monday 🟢
60 min row @ 3:04.7
HR 107/116 | 18 SPM | RPE 2–3
Wednesday 🟣
60 min controlled speed @ 2:54.7
HR 104/119 | 22 SPM | RPE 2–3
Thursday 🟢
50 min bike @ 3:01.1
HR 109/114 | 69 RPM | RPE 3–4
Three different demands.
Yet the common thread is:
Consistency + low-to-moderate RPE + no fatigue hangover.
That's precisely what I wanted Week 7 to demonstrate.
🧠 And there's something subtle happening
The pace is no longer the interesting part.
You've shown repeatedly that you can produce these numbers.
What we're now interested in is:
How cheaply can you produce them?
That's the essence of the Quiet Engine.
We're looking for the point where:
pace becomes familiar → cadence becomes automatic → breathing settles → HR remains controlled → RPE falls.
Today's bike session is another little piece of that puzzle.
🟢 Metabolic / 🔵 Neurological score
🟢🟢🟢 Metabolic — Excellent
50 minutes at controlled aerobic workload with very stable HR.
🔵🔵 Neurological — Excellent
69 RPM held virtually perfectly for the entire session.
🟣 Overall — Strong integrated control
The physiological and technical pieces are cooperating rather than competing.
One important instruction now
Do not increase anything tomorrow.
Friday remains the 40-minute Recovery Row @ ~3:06.
After four days of training, its job is to allow the work to settle into you.
If Friday feels wonderfully easy, that's not a reason to accelerate.
It's a reason to smile.
“Easy is the point.”
Then Saturday becomes our Week 7 hybrid — 45 min bike + 30 min row — and that will give us the best test of whether this week's gradual rebuilding has been absorbed.
George, this week is beginning to look very much like what we wanted when we called it Quiet Strength.
Not spectacular.
Not heroic.
Just quietly, repeatedly good.
And that is exactly how a durable engine is built. 🧱
Onward. 💪
