I've been a HWM for my whole rowing career. Birthdate 15 November 1964.
I started erging at the same time I started rowing, fall 1985. Most people in my age group remember the bike wheels w the plastic paddles that would occasionally fly of or were just plain missing! Analog counter was cool too...
Winter in Edmonton AB Canada is long and cold, and our river is completely frozen from some time in November until whenever it thaws then melts in the spring. So I got more serious about erging very early on.
My best scores were in spring 1992, 6:10.8 for 2k.
In 2004 at the age of 39 I went to CRASH-Bs for the first time, did a respectable 6:18.4. DF of 150 was mandatory that year.

I went again the following year with the goal of breaking 6:10.0. I had been sick with pneumonia for all of December and most of January, so was a bit disappointed with my 6:22.7.

Well, I was probably more disappointed at having been ill than with my score! DF was up to the individual, but I was most familiar with DF 150 so that's what I used.
Was pretty much off of erging from 2008 until 2022, when I re-started my love-hate relationship w the erg.
Until September 2024 I had been training at the DF 150, but now I have changed to DF 130. Higher rate lower resistance. I’m told (by Walshman, a rower who has researched it) that’s better for me!
