struggled at first with the self-imposed pace of 2:04.0. it was "too slow and too fast at the same time"—classic symptom of attaining sub-optimal efficiency due to an excessively slow speed relative to that demanded by the drag factor. around the halfway mark, "let myself off the leash", and settled into a brisk and yet perfectly-oiled pace of 2:03 or so. evidently around the 1000m mark picked it up a further notch. as of finishing, I was fairly frazzled, but have only the slightest touch of lung discomfort, and generally was able to keep my wits while walking off the thing.
