I'm a retired university professor (philosophy). I was a baseball pitcher in my younger days. Growing up as a poor kid in NYC, rowing and skiing were foreign (exotic) activities I knew nothing about. I don't row on water or ski very often on snow, but I greatly enjoy the C2 rower and ski erg.
