Northern Forest Center and Bike Borderlands Supporters

The Northern Forest Center is a regional investment and innovation partner creating bold possibilities that give rise to vibrant Northern Forest communities. We contribute ideas, support and expertise to people strengthening economic opportunity and environmental resiliency across the 30-million-acre Northern Forest region of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and New York. Our vision is of a thriving and welcoming region sustained by innovation and environmental stewardship. The Center is guided by a 2021 strategic framework informed by hundreds of regional stakeholders. It includes three primary strategies: 1) Strengthen Rural Communities 2) Diversify and Grow Forest-Based Businesses 3) Deepen Forest Stewardship The Center launched Bike Borderlands in 2017 with 7 networks, then known as “The MTB Collective.” The goal was to bring together mountain bike organizations and land managers from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Québec, to promote shared values such as responsible riding, inclusive access, and trail stewardship. A description of the group at that time stated “The MTB Collaborative creates & promotes quality mountain biking experiences for visitors & residents while stewarding the natural landscape & securing economic benefits for North Country communities.” A significant expansion of Bike Borderlands occurred in the early summer of 2025, which included adding networks in NY for the first time as well as expanding the breadth of networks in existing partner states.
