The 100 Peaks Challenge

http://www.100peaks.co.uk The 100 Peaks Challenge was created as a tribute to Lloyd Newell, to support ABF The Soldiers Charity and Support Our Paras. Lloyd was KIA June 2011, serving with 22 SAS when he was killed. He spent the vast majority of his career in Colchester with 216 Royal Signals, before transferring to EOD and then back to Colchester and the Parachute Regiment after passing Pathfinder selection. The Challenge takes place starting from Fort William on 23.05.17 (the day Lloyd deployed on his last tour) and finishes on Pen Y Fan on 16.06.17 (the day he was killed). The Challenge is to 'TAB' 100 Peaks in the UK, all above 610m (2000ft) - approx. 45 in Scotland, 25 in England, 1 on the Isle of Man and 29 in Wales. The Challenge will begin in Scotland, before heading across to the Isle of Man, crossing the Irish Sea in sea kayaks. We will cross the Irish Sea for a second time back to the Lakes. The final leg in Wales will begin in Snowdonia and culminate with tabbing from Waun Fach in the Black Mountains, finishing at the Summit of Pen Y Fan in the Brecon Beacons. The Challenge is a genuine attempt at something quite epic. It encompasses three disciplines that are demanding enough on their own, but are then thrown together in an extreme triathlon. This, with the logistics of attempting to summit 100 Peaks in 4 countries in 25 days, means it's a first. It's quite possibly the most demanding endurance Challenge ever staged in the UK. In the 25 days the team will complete 14 mountain marathons, 10 100+mile cycle sportives and 2 crossings of the Irish Sea in kayaks, with an average elevation gain of 10,000ft a day. The Challenge's simple goal is to create a legacy in Lloyds name and raise a minimum of £100,000.00 for the two charities.
